Red Grouse in Heather
Even though I'd headed out to shoot a sunset, I took my Sigma 150-600mm lens with me. It's heavy, but as it fits easily in my big rucksack it's perfectly carriable.
As I yomped across the moorland from the parking spot to Bamford Edge I unexpectedly startled a couple of grouse, who then startled me right back as they erupted from the heather, chuckling as they do.
I watched where they flew to, and as quickly and quietly as I could, got the Sigma set up and ready to go. I spent about 15mins crawling in the heather following this chap around, trying to keep on the best side of him for the golden sunlight and waiting for him to strike a pose.
He sat up while nibbling on the heather-buds and I got a few shots off in this sequence just before some walkers appeared and scared him off again.
