Shining Tor
I took a long-overdue wander along The Tors on the western side of the Peak District - an area I've wanted to explore for a long while. The path takes you from Pym Chair, past Oldgate Nick and Cats Tor, to Shining Tor at the southern end.
Along the way are wonderful views towards the Mam Tor and the Hope Valley in the east, and across the last of the Cheshire hill to Manchester in the West.
As I made my way along, the lower clouds cleared, leaving some high cloud with a tantalising break on the western horizon - just the right conditions for some dramatic sunset light. It's always a nervous wait when conditions look promising - so much can change...
On this occasion there was a bank of very low haze in the far distance which meant the light was short-lived - but in the few moments that it hit, it was wonderful.
A truly memorable outing, and a location I look forward to visiting again soon.
